SUPER BOWL 2024 IS SUPER TIME FOR CROSS-BORDER TV AD REVIEW: Canadian MP Brian Masse renews call for CRTC to review digital TV ads
WINDSOR, ON – Just in time for Super Bowl 2024, Windsor-West NDP MP and Innovation, Science and Industry Critic Brian Masse is again reiterating the call for a comprehensive review of cross-border television advertising markets.
“It’s a touchdown for Canadians,” said Masse. “A legacy of cross-border television connects our communities in meaningful ways daily, including through those entertaining Super Bowl commercials.”
A Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission review of conventional television advertising practices since the 2011 digital TV switch will help ensure local cross-border ads are current with internet broadcasting regulations, taxation, and privacy protocols.
Masse also highlighted the local impacts of advertising practices. “These transactions impact cross-border communities in Canada and the United States. We need to ensure that local news and journalism are supported and that our communities all benefit,” he said.
