Masse Represents Canada at “Canada Day” in New York State Legislature

(ALBANY, NY) – Today, Brian Masse MP (Windsor West) and Vice-Chair of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliament Group is in Albany, New York, alongside Senator Michael MacDonald (Nova Scotia) and Co-Chair of the Group to represent Canada to celebrate “Canada Day” in Albany.

“Our Group has been working diligently on joint issues of concern for the past year and have fostered a very close working relationship on binational issues,” said Masse. “We are here to meet with Assembly Persons from both sides of the House and to ensure Canada has a voice at the table.”

This past fall 2023, the New York-Canada Relations Task Force was created as joint testament to the importance of Canada’s relations with New York State. There are tens of billions in daily trade or goods and services.  Over 800 Canadian businesses employ almost 59,000 workers in New York, and the two share deep historical, cultural and social ties.  This Task Force is working to strengthen these ties through meetings with the key leaders in New York State.

Masse and MacDonald will meet with Majority Leaders Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Crystal Peoples-Stokes, Minority Leaders Will Barclay and Rob Ortt, and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie. From 3:00-4:00 p.m. there will be the “Reading of the Canada Day Resolution” in the New York State Senate wherein Masse and MacDonald will be representing Canada.

“I’m honoured to be representing Canada at this declaration. Being a border city MP allows me to understand the significance of our binational relationship and the ties our two countries have built,” stated Masse. “This is an important step forward for Canada-New York relations and strengthening our ties for future prosperity in our local communities.”
