MASSE QUESTIONED THE TRANSPORT MINISTER TO SUPPORT LEGISLATION TO PROTECT THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SERVICE AT WINDSOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: Establishing this ministerial authority will protect airports across the country

(WINDSOR) – Today, Brian Masse NDP M.P. (Windsor West) in the House of Commons during Question Period asked the Transport Minister to support a legislative solution that would provide the Minister the power to remove airports from NAV Canada studies to reduce or eliminate air traffic controllers.

In the House Commons during Question Period Masse stated:

“Mr. Speaker,

Nav Canada announced a study to close air traffic control towers at airports across the country, including Windsor, throwing our community into disarray as they hold non-public meetings. Windsor, Tecumseh and Detroit’s airspace is complex since it includes 5 airports. Eliminating air traffic control puts the public’s safety in jeopardy, especially in the dangerous Riverside Descent area that has had tragic mid-air collisions between Canadian and American planes. I presented a legislative solution that empowers the Minister to put public safety first and foremost. Will the Minister support this proposal to become law?”
