MASSE INFORMS THE PUBLIC TO PARTICIPATE IN GOVERNMENT CONSULTATION ON MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IN DYING: Deadline for public submission is January 27, 2020

(Windsor)- Today, Brian Masse M.P. (Windsor West), NDP Innovation, Science, Economic Development and Auto Critic sent out information to the public to ensure they knew they can participate in the consultation the Government of Canada is holding on Medical Assistance in Dying before the deadline of January 27, 2020.

Masse stated:

“The Government of Canada wants to hear your views on the Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) Legislation. They have created an online survey to hear from you and what changes you would like to see with the legislation and it is available here: https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/cons/ad-am/index.html. The deadline for public comments is less than a week away! It’s this coming Monday, January 27, 2020.

In September 2019, a judgment of the Quebec Superior Court struck down the existing provision in Canada’s law on medical assistance in dying (MAID) relating to the requirement that a patient’s death be reasonably foreseeable. The judgement is suspended until March 11, 2020, when it will come into force. Over the coming weeks, the Government of Canada will be holding extensive consultations with patients, practitioners, stakeholders, disability advocates, and parliamentarians to better understand what Canadians want to see. But this is YOUR chance to directly affect the final form that this legislation will take.
