Harper must re-invest in education if Canada is to become more competitive says McDonough

HALIFAX – Alexa McDonough today called on Prime Minister Stephen Harper to heed the advice of the provinces and education stakeholders at today’s historic Education Summit and commit immediately to re-investing billions cut from post-secondary education (PSE).
Last year, the NDP budget invested an additional $1.5 billion over two years to increase college and university access.

“Today’s message from education stakeholders is clear: more stable, long term funding is needed for post-secondary education and training, if Canada is to become more competitive in today’s global economy," said McDonough. “But money alone won’t solve the problems facing today’s youth who must pay sky high tuition fees and carry crippling student debt loads."

Early this year, Brian decided to begin work on a ambitious and comprehensive Bill that would increase the support available to seniors in our community and across Canada. After a decade of Liberal government, many services that affect seniors have been off-loaded to our provincial or municipal governments. Brian believes that Canadians want our Federal government to provide leadership and the political will to change this situation and ensure that all our seniors, regardless of where they live, are able to access the services they need. The basic proposal of the Bill, would be to provide sen

12 years of Liberal broken promises
WINDSOR – Brian Masse, MP for Windsor West, described the Liberal promise to stop the flow of illegal handguns across the border as “too little, too late.?

“People have 12 good reasons not to believe a thing the Liberals say - one reason for every year of Liberal broken promises,? said Joe Comartin, MP for Windsor-Tecumseh.

“Paul Martin is promising to use a poodle as a guard dog,? Masse said. “We need a real border strategy to beef up border inspections, hire and train enough customs officers and give them the tools they need to get the job done. The Liberal proposal doesn’t even come close,? he added.

Brian Masse's speech at the CAW National Council
I’d like to thank you for the opportunity to be here today.

Sisters and brothers, the CAW has been a big part of my life, and your help has been a big part of me being elected to Parliament to fight for working families. Thank you.

I don’t have a long speech for you today. I just want to talk a little bit about pride.

I’m proud to have stood in Parliament to oppose a Liberal government that wants to open Canada’s health system to private, for-profit, American-style so-called “Care?.

Among many other good reasons, adopting such a system will go right to the payroll costs of employers -- and that means lower competitiveness and fewer jobs in auto.
